PACIFIC WHITE (PANAEUS VANNAMEI) SHRIMP
- Post larvae (seed stock) come from the Harlingen Shrimp Farms and from Shrimp Improvement Systems in Florida, which provide certified disease-free post larvae.
-
Ponds are stocked with post larvae annually in April and May.
KEY FACTORS
- The intake of water supply
- The close monitoring of the growth of the shrimp and the pond conditions
GRAIN-FED
Farm-raised shrimp are grain-fed up to five times a day and grow in aerated bay water, where the iodine is not as high as in the gulf.
THE HARVEST
Harvest takes place annually from September through November. As the shrimp are caught, they immediately fall into a vat of ice slush for a quick chill-kill to ensure the freshness and quality of the shrimp.
BOWERS SHRIMP PROCESSING PLANT
- Much effort is made to uphold excellence at Bowers Shrimp. Our processing plant is a state-of-the-art facility that meets all regulations and it allows us to accurately weigh, process, package, and store our unique crop.
- Because the temperature is so vital to product freshness, we consistently and carefully monitor ourshrimp in accordance with the FDA’s HACCP Program to maintain the correct temperature. The facility is refrigerated to maintain shrimp temperature below 45° during processing and at
-20° during cold storage. - With responsible and sensitive handling, our facility will process between 60,000 and 80,000 pounds of shrimp per day.
THE QUICK FREEZE PROCESS
- Immediate processing of the shrimp assures absolute freshness.
- Using liquid nitrogen or our spiral freezer using Freon, the shrimp are Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) or block-frozen with an 8% to 12% glaze that protects the shrimp.
- Bowers Shrimp are stored at sub-zero degrees temperatures to guarantee a consistently fresh and flavorful product.
